Tatouage
(’Tattoo’ in French’) is a collection that tells a story of the tattoo culture in France at the turn of the 20th century. Under the French penitentiary system, tattoos served as a common language among prisoners, each piece chronicling emotional themes ranging from suffering and despair to happiness and love. These expressive symbols allowed them to find solidarity and share the narratives of their lives with each other. This international common language is preserved in the pieces of this line where each motif captures the memories, emotions, and stories of these men.
